THI update 24-30 August 2026.

Last week cooled from the highs of the past 6-10wks but didn’t cool as much as had been predicted/hoped for, in fact northern England and Scotland were more testing for cows than the previous couple of weeks!

All regions except Scotland (3 days) experienced 5+ days of average THI 65+ showing that our version of ‘more comfortable’ is not the same as what cows experience…

Extremes were reduced as maximum THI levels were ‘only’ 77, recorded in Dorset, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire whilst further north wasn’t far behind at max THIs of 75 (Lancashire and Newton Stewart (not Dumfriesshire as that’s basically the entire south coast of Scotland!)).

This week should see maximum (outside) temperatures in the mid 20’s so hopefully averages will ease further for cows inside although the benefit of cloud cover reducing solar gain from the sun brings with it higher humidity as we enter meteorological autumn… 🐄☀️🌡️➡️⛅️🌦️
