THI update 3-9 August 2026. Last week continued…

THI update 3-9 August 2026.

Last week continued the trend of the north/south split, whilst adding a twist of starting hot, cooling and warming up again (still no rain for most though!).

The heat remained in the south and Midlands with 7 & 5 days, respectively, of average THI 65 or higher so challenging conception rates. Hours at, or above, THI 67 remained around 50% for these regions so challenging lying behaviours for cows.

Wales, northern England and Scotland saw marginally better in-shed conditions with 3, 3 & 2 days respectively at average THI 65, starting the week warm and ending Sunday with increasing temperatures.

Our high was once again in the south at 37.4°C @ 29% RH to record THI 83 and showed the impact of solar gain as this eased 3°C some 30-45 mins later.

Today sees temperatures picking up and increasing again Weds/Thurs so cows will be under significant pressure as we see mid-30’s for many. Don’t crowd collecting areas and ensure good water supply. Ensure feed is fresh in evenings as temps look like falling then 🐄☀️
