From a cows’ perspective, last week was practically a mirror image of the week before, including regional variations from south to north. The Midlands and south of England maintained 5 and 7 days at average THI 65 or more respectively whilst Wales, northern England and Scotland registered 4, 3 and 2 days at/above the threshold, offering cows some respite but still some challenge in terms of fertility and conception rates.

Temperatures certainly eased as only a handful of sheds passed 30°C at all, and a number in Scotland struggled to make 20°C with most northern sheds peaking below 25°C with only the odd exception.

The week and weekend saw levels falling to allow most cows to return to more normal behaviours but that was before yesterday and today when temperatures lifted again, and certainly humidity will have played a big part for many this past couple of days. The rest of the week should see temperatures closer to 20° than 30° (🤞🏻🤞🏻) but humidity may hold THI levels up given rain/cloud cover 🐄☀️🌡️
